BIOTECH AUSTRIA – Driving Innovation, Shaping the Future

Biotechnology is a key driver of innovation, cutting-edge technology, and top-tier research, as well as future prosperity. In addition, biotechnology companies are attractive employers, offering people from all backgrounds exciting, global opportunities.

In Austria, biotechnology is one of the fastest-growing future-oriented industries, characterized by high growth dynamics and international competitiveness.

To better represent the interests of this dynamic future industry, BIOTECH AUSTRIA has been the dedicated advocacy organization for the Austrian biotechnology sector since December 10, 2020. The overarching goals of BIOTECH AUSTRIA are to consolidate the interests of the industry in order to speak with a strong voice in politics and society, to improve framework conditions, and to realize synergy effects.

Some time ago, we submitted our complementary proposals on the federal government’s draft law for the “Startup Package.” The Stellungnahme (german) was forwarded to Parliament and will now be part of further discussions during the finalization of the draft law. In doing so, we support progress for the founding and development of young and innovative companies in Austria.

Most recently, we published our Stellungnahme (german) on the realignment of Austria’s funding landscape. Austria’s research premium is unusually attractive by international standards and is a central location factor for biotechnology. A “Funding Taskforce,” led by the Ministry of Finance, recently submitted proposals to reorganize the Austrian funding landscape, which will also entail significant budget cuts.
